How to pick travel dates that actually work

The dates you pick often change a trip more than the destination does. The same hotel can cost half in one week and double in another, and the same street can be empty or packed.

Start with the weather you can live with

Check what the season actually feels like, not just the temperature. A hill station in heavy monsoon is a different holiday from the same place in winter. If you are travelling with children or older parents, aim for the comfortable months even if they cost a little more.

Avoid the peaks you do not need

School holidays, long weekends, and festival weeks push prices up and crowds in. If your dates are flexible, moving a trip by a week or two on either side of a peak often saves real money and gives you quieter places.

Check flight days, not just dates

Flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually cheaper than Friday and Sunday departures. If you can shift your start day by one, you may pay less for the same trip.

Leave a buffer

Do not plan a booking for the day you land back home, and leave a day free before any international departure. Weather, traffic, and paperwork all take longer than the plan says.

If you are not sure about the best window for a destination, ask us. We look at the same calendars every week and can tell you when a place is at its best.
